Persuasion - Jane Austen

I read the book first and then watched the movie. It was a bit difficult to get into and figure out who was who, but after that I was hooked. I felt so bad for Anne. She was constantly getting stomped on. I could just feel her frustration of being so close to Wentworth and not knowing if he still loved her or not. I LOVED his quick desperate letter to her near the end. I have to quote it again here b/c it's just so good. Page 223 in the Barnes and Noble Classics version, "You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone forever. I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own, than when you almost broke it eight years and a half ago. ...I have loved none but you. Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant. You alone have brought me to Bath. For you alone I think and plan." You know she was reading that letter super fast. So excited to get to the end and see what the heck he was trying to say, but at the same time trying to savor each word. Good stuff.

Okay now the movie. Really good representation of the book as a whole. I liked all the actors. The annoying girls were perfect! I just wanted to slap them the whole time (which was the idea I think). The main girl had some issues with her eyes. She was like wide-eyed the whole time. She had one expression the entire movie. I mean she was supposed to be acting like that, but it got really annoying. She was awesome except for the eye thing. Otherwise the movie was great.

Heartbeat - Danielle Steel

I already reviewed this on Facebook, but I wanted to do them here too.

I wasn't too anxious to read Danielle Steel, but after this book I think I will read more. It was the perfect vacation book. Easy to read and happy. The main guy was almost too perfect though. He was super understanding the whole time. Cute story though. Definitely worth the time.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Okay the new Indiana Jones movie was really good if you LOVE Indiana Jones (which I do by the way), but it was kind of disappointing at the same time. The end took a turn that I totally hate and wish never happened, but the rest of it was on target. Harrison Ford is still HOT to me as long as he keeps his shirt on. Wish guys still wore fedoras. They're awesome. Anyways...worth paying to see it in the theater. Watch it and let me know what you think. ALSO...tell me whether you think they're going to have more or not. I'm voting no based on the ending, but then I also thought that maybe Harrison had another one in him too. We'll see.

Made of Honor

Loved it! It's predictable but still so good. Michelle Monaghan plays Hannah, and she has recently become one of my new favorite actresses. Patrick Dempsey is still a fave and sexy as ever...of course! He seriously makes me melt, and his on-screen kissing is perfect. He knows how to deliver with those lips! Whew! As Rachel Ray would say YUMMO! ;o) This is a chick flick, but it's different from most in that the focus is mostly on the leading man as opposed to the leading lady, and he goes through all the trials and obstacles to get what he ultimately wants in the end. I really liked the variation. It is a delightfully sweet and funny film, and I enjoyed the whole thing from start to finish. I'll be buying this when it comes out on DVD. Go see it!

There Will Be Blood

Excellent movie with an excellent leading man. Daniel Day-Lewis definitely proved he deserved the Oscar he won for his role as Daniel Plainview. He did such an amazing job with his performance...I mean everything right down to the movement of his mouth and the twinges and ticks and squinting, everything! Paul Dano did well as Eli Sunday, and he was so creepy and perfect for his part. Ciaran Hinds also has a supporting role, and I was so happy to see him again. He's one of my favorite actors. The movie wasn't slow-going, but it was slow in the beginning. It spanned several years in the early 20th century when everyone was on the quest for oil. I liked the story of the two main characters striving for wealth and power by the same means but for two very different goals. It was interesting to watch this movie develop and "finish"... I know the ending was kind of sickening, but I liked it and thought it was actually kind of funny. The ending really made the movie for me.

Cloverfield

Nauseating. Even though I was on pain medication while watching this film, I still say it'll make you sick. Pointless and not very scary. The home video effects weren't believable, and the actors were forgetful. I am so glad it's over.
